Our
Story

Hey! Thanks for being here and getting to know us. My name is Lindsey and I am the head farmer at RSF. The farm was established in spring of 2021 by myself, my fiancé Rich and our newborn daughter Rhea. The farm is located in Gardiner, Washington in between Sequim and Port Townsend, on the same soil I ran across as a barefooted little tomboy and where I spent the first 18 years of my life. It was growing up in Gardiner on 5 acres and a vast, beautiful neighborhood with forests, meadows, and beaches just a hop, skip, or bike ride away, that developed my deep love and appreciation for the natural environment and the outdoors. With a passion for advocating and protecting our natural ecosystems I attended Western Washington University to earn a degree in Environmental Science. Although, my eyes were set on a career in Marine science, my rebellious nature and the tragic loss of my brother sent me on a path I never saw coming. After college and some traveling I chose to experience living in a tent on the Garden Isle of Hawaii on an organic fruit and vegetable farm. What was supposed to be a 3 month stint turned into 3 years and the beginning of my farming career. Kauai is where I realized I am happiest working hard with my hands in the dirt with the sun on my skin and fresh air in my lungs. Thanks to my mentor Brad Smith of Viva Rain Farm I was supported in trying my own farming endeavor which lead to a position with the Kilauea Community Agriculture Center, managing their CSA program. Shortly after accepting this position I lost my father, inherited my childhood home, and found out I was pregnant, Yeehaw! Life sure can throw a lot at you all at once. Richard and I began obsessively learning about small scale farms and with his encouragement we decided to move back to Washington and start our farm and our family simultaneously.

So, in March of 2021 just 3 months after the birth of our first daughter we started laying cardboard and compost on top of the sod, planting plants, buying chicks, and dreaming bigger and bigger. Thankfully Richard is a talented carpenter and has built so many chicken coops, greenhouses, farmstands, and other structures for the farm, we make a good team. Growing each year, Rhea Sunshine Farm embraces regenerative agriculture practices, never using pesticides or herbicides, and practicing no-till methods, until this year when we opened up a 1/2 acre of new land with an initial till but will continue to practice minimal tilling and focus on soil health and growing nutrient rich food for our neighbors and community by supporting the natural biological cycles that Mother Nature provides. Thank you for your support of our farm and all local small scale

farming operations.
